Author Anne Rice, upon regaining the theatrical rights to her literary mythology in November , wasted no time in moving forward with the television project. Five months later, Paramount Television and Anonymous Content optioned the rights for the literary franchise to develop said television project. Consequently, both Anne and her son, Christopher Rice, will be onboard the project as executive producers, joined in that capacity by Anonymous Content's David Kanter and Steve Golin.

The January acquisition of Bryan Fuller as showrunner seemed like an auspicious development. However, the television maestro of Pushing Daisies , Hannibal and American Gods has been somewhat of a rolling stone as of late, having vacated both the second season of American Gods and his coveted Star Trek: Discovery tenure, as well as s anthology reboot Amazing Stories.

Indeed, Fuller would exit The Vampire Chronicles just four months after his appointment, leaving the project — now set to be hosted by Hulu — where it currently stands: rudderless. Of course, with the Hulu deal now in place, expect the search for a new skipper to be a top priority.

Fuller seemed the perfect choice to direct a bloodsucking universe where there is no need for guilt because there is no god to the lead character. The vampire Lestat de Lioncourt outlived the need for any higher authority as he prowled the lower reaches of history's darkest nights. Lestat, Louis, and Claudia will still emerge from their sun-screened rooms to sink their teeth into prime time.

Eleven of the books will be adapted into a TV series from Paramount Television. Anne Rice's followed up with a pinprick of a tease. On the contrary, they try to wring from the unknown the answers they have already shaped in their own minds -- justifications, confirmations, forms of consolation without which they can't go on. To really ask is to open the door to the whirlwind. The answer may annihilate the question and the questioner. A follower asked whether production started on the series. I'm not sure how many scripts must be written before that decision is made, but I would think quite a few.

The first director hired was Fuller. We are hoping he chooses to stay on and potentially showrun. In this the new Golden Age of television, such a series is THE way to let the entire story of the vampires unfold. I will also be an executive producer all the way. It is, more than ever, abundantly clear that television is where the vampires belong.

Well, I have heard you. I have always heard you. What you want is what I want. Think of the mermaid.

Vampires Are Sex Gods - TV Tropes

One day a horny sailor saw his first manatee. But apparently he was and that was the seed of the mermaid legend. Every myth, mythological creature, mythological god would be far different than the humans of those times managed to put down on paper or pass along. If your world is inhabited by vamps, weres, fey, and a thousand monsters, do you think that, say, a lycanthrope sat down about 25, BC to tell their furry story to any human who came along? If your vampires existed as mine did , before the time of Christ, why would they fear a cross, be burned by holy water, sleep in coffins before there were coffins?

They probably sat around at the weekly vamp meeting and concocted all sorts of crazy fake legendary weapons to pretend to cower from right before they ate you. Good joke for them, eh? Hell, he probably drank his blood with ground garlic around the edge of his chalice of blood—like salt on a margarita glass.

In my universe of the Cal Leandros Novels and Trickster Novels, Puck, Pan, Robin Goodfellow is now a used car salesman what better job for a charismatic, arrogant, slick and slippery con artist of a trickster? And he never had goat legs. They were fur chaps long before they came into fashion. Goodfellow didn't follow the trends, he set them.

Elves are worse monsters than demons from the deepest depths of Hell. They are the bogeymen even to other monsters. They were the first predators—the first murderers to walk the earth. They were once in the same evolutionary line of prehistoric wolf and split off into a species that could turn human if they wished—all the better to infiltrate their prey and gobble them up with those great big teeth, Grandma.

And it goes on and on. Your only limits are the ones you set on yourself. I never liked rules. Wanna hear more? So well done and let's hear it for him! Sign the contract. I drank all that? And when I started work on the manuscript, I naturally dragged out my private library. Dozens of books flew off my shelves and built a castle around my desk.

How does Naomi Novik change her prose for the voice for Temeraire? Which novel did Terry Pratchett avoid using a prologue? Why is Edward Eager still enjoyed by adults? Of course, I had to have read all these novels in the first place. Every one of them led me to this book, like little stepping stones made of paper and ink.

Remember those nesting dolls back in the third paragraph? When the contract arrived, I kept my promise. Once summer break came, he and I took a plane to Eastern Europe. The Old Country. Where vampires comes from. But the path keeps on going. Spending ten days in backwoods Ukraine settled the question. The people there still live in the nineteenth century, and while my son was visiting relatives, I was conducting quiet research for the next novel. I know. But as an adult I feel very little desire to write what most adults are envisioned as reading.

I think this is great. For me, having the personality I have an odd one , writing YA is natural regardless of my age. See, my middle school existence was pretty much miserable thanks to the mean girls and a couple of bless their hearts not so bright guys.

I learned to throw a punch in 7 th grade. And somewhere in those corridors part of my personality stuck and refused to be easily unwedged. Teens are bright, willing to question authority and stand up for their beliefs. They test the world. They push the envelope. Previous 10 Back to top.

And that's how I approach writing paranormal fiction. Truth mixed with the crazy. Real, in the sense that the magic, the paranormal aspect, is accepted and normal to someone, not necessarily everyone. I mean, think about airplanes. We take them for granted. We climb inside, fly up into the air to travel huge distances around the world.

To us, it's normal. We might not know exactly how it works, but it does, and it's nothing to get excited about unless TSA is about to pat you down. In another age, however Heck, sometimes it still does.
